Spring has arrived and the Haut Espoir Reserve in Franschhoek is looking beautiful, filled with flowers and growing fynbos. The bees are busy creating some delicious fynbos honey and the birds are showing off their beauty.

The vineyards are pruned and primed for new growth. The soil is fertile with our Biodynamic fertilizing efforts and the undergrowth is lush with green growth.

Haut Espoir’s winter alien vegetation removal plan was helped significantly by the fire in February but has seen a massive re-sprouting of seeds lying dormant underground, so while it has helped the biodiversity project amazingly well, it now means a sharp upswing in time spent removing those pesky alien shoots off the mountain slopes. On that note, the number of underground endemic bulbs flowering after the winter rains is something I have not seen here before in many years, so a very exciting time to be out and about on the reserve.

The new Haut Espoir Sauvignon blanc and Merlot are scheduled to launch on the Online Store in December.

The Sauvignon Blanc offers Tropical fruit, yellow peach and spicy aromatic notes dominate the nose. The palate is vibrant with fresh acidity and white stone fruit, finished off with an elegant, yet rich texture.

The 100% Merlot has juicy sweet plum and dark cherry on the nose that follows through to the palate. The finish is layered with fruit and oak with a soft velvety tannin structure and a rich texture.
