Obama follows through on Sochi beer bet

President Obama has upheld a beer bet with Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper after the US men and women’s hockey teams both lost to Canada in recent clashes.

The pair bet on their respective men and women’s Olympic hockey teams last week with both agreeing to give the other a case of beer should their teams lose.

Unfortunately for Obama the US men and women’s teams both lost leaving Obama two cases of beer worse off.

Canada defeated the US men 1-0 in the Sochi Olympic men’s semi-finals, advancing to Sunday’s final against Sweden who they beat 3-0.

While the women’s Canadian team beat their US counterparts 3-2 in the women’s hockey final in a game which ran into sudden-death overtime.

Posting on Twitter, President Harper said: “Like I said, team USA is good but we are winter. I look forward to my two cases of beer.”
