Pairing Sauvignon Blanc with Summer Recipes

It’s the season to eat lighter and fresher, in our collective strive towards that beach-ready body. And with the switch to salads and fresh produce, you’ll probably want to spend more time cooking al fresco and enjoying the (slightly) warmer weather. With a cold glass of refreshing white wine, brimming with fruit and bright acidity, like the beachhouse Sauvignon Blanc. So fire up the braai and send out the dinner party invites, we’ve got the best recipe inspiration for pairing with this go-to summer wine, and for guilt-free eating this season.

Yellowtail Darnes with a Herby Mascarpone Butter

It is a well-known fact that Sauvignon Blanc loves seafood, and vice versa. Just make sure it is on SASSI’s green list for sustainability, like Yellowtail, which is a firm fish that is perfect for braaiing on a grid. We love this novel take on braaied Yellowtail with a fantastic mascarpone herb butter. This recipe also calls for a crunchy green salad.

Roast potato salad

What is a braai without some good side dishes? And that all-time South African favourite, the potato salad. But if you want to watch your waist this summer, rather ditch the mayo and try this lighter version of the braai staple. The dressing consists of Dijon mustard, red wine vinegar and olive oil, and it’s totally delish.

Greek Yogurt Panna Cotta

Now, all that left is to whip up some dessert! Beautiful berries are in season now and fit the bill perfectly for our less-is-more summer menu mantra. This dreamy panna cotta made from Greek yoghurt instead of cream delivers all the flavour with none of the guilt. And the fruitiness and acidity of the fresh berries and sauce echo the characteristics of the Sauvignon Blanc brilliantly.
