Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris – What’s The Difference?

Pinot Grigio wines have seen a huge increase in popularity over the last decade, predominantly due to Chardonnay’s fall from grace and also due to its easy drinking style, giving the drinker a simple wine with very little complexity for simple, everyday drinking.

The wine itself comes from almost blue coloured berries and, up until the 1960’s when Italian wine producing giant Santa Margherita changed their winemaking style, it was a rosé wine in style and colour – then the winemakers at Santa Margherita realized that it could make a very nice white wine.
