Plastic Free Grocery Store to open in Cape Town`s East City

Environmentally friendly shopping is slowly filtering through to Cape Town.

With almost 250,000 plastic bottles dumped in the trash every hour, the impact of South African retail habits lay heavily on the environment, but shoppers are becoming more aware. These days, 22.5 % of all plastics products made are recycled into raw material again and as of 2014, plastics going to landfills have decreased by 3.2%.  This might sound like nothing, but numbers like these were inconceivable a decade ago.

Over the last couple of years organic neighbourhood markets like Earth Fair Market and City Bowl Market have blossmed and became part of the greenconscious hipster in Cape Town. Together with social media meltdowns, like the Woolworths plastic egg box debacle, everything points to a more waste-less shopping experience.

Enters Nude Foods, Cape Town’s first environmentally friendly grocery store.

Situated off Harrington Street in the East City, Nude Foods will be a welcoming addition to this already up-and-coming neighbourhood.
