The Old Road Wine Co. in Franschhoek continued its year of attracting sublime critical acclaim by achieving four ratings of 90pts and over in the latest South African Report by Tim Atkin, MW. In his latest report, which is seen as the leading international report on the state of the Cape wine industry, Atkin awarded the following scores to wines in the Old Road Wine Co. stable: Stone Trail Single Vineyard Chenin Blanc 2019 (93pts), Pepper Wind Limited Release Syrah 2018 (92pts), 12 Mile Syrah 2018 (91pts) and Elgin Pinot Noir 2019 (90pts). All these Old Road Wine Company wines are from the Franschhoek region, except for the Pinot Noir which is made from Elgin fruit.

 

The Old Road Wine Co. in Franschhoek has reaffirmed the exceptional quality of wines made from South Africa’s legendary old vineyards by winning the Trophy for Best Sémillon at the prestigious Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show. The Trophy went to Old Road Wine Co.’s Grand Mère Single Vineyard Sémillon 2017, this trophy and a 96pt judges’ rating playing a profound role in making Old Road one of the Old Mutual Trophy Wine Show’s Top 10 producers for 2021. 

 

With another major accolade having recently come its way at the annual Mundus Vini International Wine Awards in Germany, the Old Road Wine Co. (ORWC) from Franschhoek is rapidly becoming the best performing young winery in South Africa. At this year’s Mundus Vini, Old Road Wine Co. delivered the Best South African White Wine with its gold-medal winning Anemos Chenin Blanc 2018.

 

A single-vineyard Syrah from the Old Road Wine Co. in Franschhoek re-affirmed its commitment to showcasing a unique sense of place by winning a National Award at this year’s Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards, South Africa’s only competition specifically recognising wines showing exceptional linkage to geographical site. Pepper Wind Syrah 2017 was named one of 32 National Winners out of 240 entries, and the top Syrah on show.

The 12 Mile Limited Release Syrah 2017 from Old Road Wine Co. in Franschhoek has been rated amongst the best wines in South Africa’s in the latest report from the Wine Advocate, one of the world’s leading critical wine forums. Scoring 94pts from Wine Advocate’s South African expert Anthony Mueller, the 12 Mile Syrah finds itself in the leading ten wines appraised by Mueller for the new report.
