We have written extensively about Eagle’s Nest; about the estate and its wines. Eagle’s Nest is known for its award winning Shiraz and has built its reputation on the variety.
The 2010 Shiraz is unashamedly New-World, perfect for consumption after only 4 years yet it is nowhere near fully developed and will probably evolve even more during the next 5 years (bearing in mind that it’s under screwcap). The wine has a beautiful red fruit expression on the nose, with smokey, savoury hues that translate onto the palate. It is satin-smooth, rather than velvelty, with a hugely expressive fresh red fruit palate and the expected cool climate white pepper is toned down but still present.
It’s a delicious wine, but not hard work. Open a bottle, preferably just after breakfast; make sure you have a second one handy.
You can order direct from the farm at R225 per bottle – worth every cent.
