BOUCHARD FINLAYSON SPONSORS ART AWARD AT HERMANUS FYNARTS FESTIVAL

6-16 JUNE 2014
Issued by FIVESTAR PR On behalf of Bouchard Finlayson

Following last year’s success of the inaugural Hermanus FynArts FestivalBouchard Finlayson has further expanded its role in the second annual event, taking place from 6 – 16 June 2014. This year, the renowned boutique vineyard and winery will sponsor the ‘Tollman Bouchard Finlayson Art Award 2014 Tondo Competition’ during the all-encompassing festival of visual arts, literature, music and award-winning food and wine, celebrating South African arts and culture. (Tondo is Renaissance term for a circular work of art – in this instance displayed on the top, flat end of a wine barrel)
Artists have once again been invited to submit their creations in the Bouchard Finlayson Barrel Head Exhibition. Themed ‘Origins’ this year, the work of approximately forty finalists will be exhibited on barrel heads in Bouchard Finlayson’s wine cellar, where it will also be available for sale for the duration of the Hermanus FynArts festival.
The prestigious judging panel is led by independent academic, writer and curator, and former Director of the South African National Gallery, Marilyn Martin. Her fellow judges are Art Consultant and Curator Karen McKerron and Curator Brenton Maart, who is a PhD Scholar at the Centre for Curating the Archive, Michaelis School of Fine Art, at the University of Cape Town. Maart curated the South African Pavilion at last year’s 55th La Biennale di Venezia.
Bouchard Finlayson will host an awards ceremony for invited guests on Friday 6 June at 12 noon, where the winner’s prize of R30 000 and three merit prizes of R5000 each will be presented to the finalists, while guests will be able to enjoy the latest Bouchard Finlayson wine releases.
After a successful inaugural 2013 festival that helped to put Hermanus firmly on the arts and cultural map in South Africa, this year visitors can expect an even greater array of exhibitions by renowned ceramicists, painters, sculptors, quilters and photographers, as well as talks; concerts; recitals; food and wine pairings; tutored wine tastings; high teas; and workshops and master classes. Wine fans can further enjoy a special ‘Wine Plus’ series of tastings and talks from 8 – 10 June, curated by Melvyn Minnaar.
Visitors to the festival are invited to take advantage of the FynArts/Hermanus ‘hop on, hop off’ bus (at a small extra charge), taking visitors on a wine tour up the Hemel-en-Aarde road to savour a glass of the best whilst viewing the exhibitions. Guests may peruse the works of art on display while tasting Bouchard Finlayson’s lauded wines, including the Bouchard Finlayson Tête de Cuvée Galpin Peak Pinot noir 2009 and 2010; Bouchard Finlayson Galpin Peak Pinot noir 2012; Bouchard Finlayson Hannibal 2012; Bouchard Finlayson Kaaimansgat Limited Edition Chardonnay 2010; Bouchard Finlayson Sans Barrique Chardonnay 2013; and the Bouchard Finlayson Blanc de Mer 2013.
