Peter-Allan Finlayson’s new venture

Crystallum Wines is a small family-run estate in the Walker Bay area of South Africa. Though the estate is a relatively new venture, the Finlaysons have been producing fine wine in South Africa for three generations.

After these successes the next challenge is knocking on the door as Peter-Allan is about to take on the Gabriëlskloof brand (as from the first of July this year). He will also be making his Crystallum wines in the same cellar.  Peter-Allan’s wife Nicolene is in charge of the estate’s marketing and is the daughter of Bernhard Heyns, the leading partner in the Gabriëlskloof property.

GabrielskloofThe estate was established in 2002, with a maiden bottling in 2007, coincidentally the year that Peter-Allan Finlayson and Andrew Finlayson set up their winery.  The sons of celebrated Pinot Noir pioneer Peter Finlayson, originally produced only Sauvignon Blanc. Today, they exclusively produce Chardonnay and Pinot Noir and make some of the best expressions of these varieties in the country.

Gabriëlskloof, which lies in the beautiful Botriver area, has already made some good wines and with Peter-Allan, who has received international acclaim for his wines, this winery holds promise for a great destiny in producing some excellent wines going forward.
