A letter from Mike Ratcliffe from Vilafonte: As I write this note, our vines have entered their winter slumber which allows us a rare pause for reflection. Our international joint-venture can trace its roots back almost 20 years. It all started when Dr Phil Freese identified the unique vilafontes soil, which defines our expressive parcel of land, in the shadow of the Simonsberg Mountain. This is a big year for Vilafonte and we will soon announce the release of our tenth vintage – the 2012.
