Dining by the fire, in Cape Town

You thought you would hibernate in your blanket for the remaining winter weeks, but now your cozy plan has hit a hard wall: food. Your fridge supplies have depleted (a mouldy lemon is not an acceptable lunch), and you can feel the pizza man judging you.
Luckily for you, we have a solution.
We have compiled for you a few of our favourite food dens around the Cape that will have you licking your lips – and not chattering your teeth while doing it. These gems come fully fitted with a fireplace to melt the icicles from your toes.

Aubergine Restaurant – 021 465 4909
Fancy a plate of classical cuisine that innovatively includes local ingredients? Aubergine is an elegant restaurant that promises a selection of meat, game, seafood, fish and vegetarian dishes that are proudly South African –  with some Asian accents.
A fireplace in the centre of the main dining room heats the double volume room wonderfully, ensuring a cosy atmosphere while you tuck into your meal.
Their Winter Bistro Menu is currently available until September and provides a choice of four starters, four main courses and four desserts. Aubergine invites you to enjoy two of their courses for R235.00, or three courses for R315.00. If a glass of wine on a cold winter’s night is up your alley, this restaurant will suit you perfectly as they specialise in wine and food pairing.
Should you wish to celebrate a special occasion, Aubergine caters for larger crowds with their private dining areas. You have the option of a room for 10 – 12, or 15 – 18 guests.
But wait, there’s more. Auslese is Aubergine’s private events venue where wine pairing dinners and music evenings are open to the public. And if you would like the place to yourself, Aubergine will close off the entire venue just for you and your company. The venue is ideal for groups of 20 – 40 for sitting down, or up to 80 for a standing affair.
During Winter Aubergine is open from Monday to Saturday, between 18h00 and 22h00. During the Summer you can pop in for lunch from Wednesday to Friday, between 12h00 and 14h00; or from Monday to Saturday for a delicious dinner between 18h00 and 22h00.

They have your traditional steaks and burgers as well as local favourites such as bobotie. The menu also boasts Mexican and Spanish dishes to ensure you aren’t starved for choice.
Van Hunks has a special for each day of the week – don’t miss their discounted burgers on a Sunday, or their lunch bargain: two meals for R75.00.
