The La Motte Millennium beats Ugg boots any day

Last weekend it rained so much that my car couldn’t make it over the dodgy farm roads near our house. For me this was an immediate reason to celebrate: stuck inside with a roaring fire and a stash of wine on a stormy day? Oh yeah, license to party!
Friends came over for lunch and brought along a bottle of the 2012 La Motte Millennium. This wine is a blend of 60% Merlot, with Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot and Malbec. The La Motte website recommends serving it with “any sumptuous meal. Best served with red meats, game, roasts and noble, matured cheese.” Unknowingly we hit the nail on the head and enjoyed the wine with a killer oxtail potjie.
It really did go down well; the rich, saucy potjie was just sublime with the juicy, fruity flavours of the Millennium. I got bit of a berry vibe from the wine, coupled with a lovely velvety-ness. It was a bit like being under a big fluffy red blanket, which was a nice thought considering it was 14 degrees outside.
The Millennium is R70.00 a bottle direct from the estate, which is a damn good price for such an enjoyable wine. Plus it made a cold afternoon very warm and festive, so it’s totally an investment in your Winter well-being.
