“The gorgeous Hemelhuijs. It is the most beautifully decorate restaurant in Cape Town. And I have a serious weakness for their crispy potato rosti with smoked salmon and poached eggs. And did I mention truffle hot chocolate? Absolute breakfast heaven!”.

THE WHIPPET | ALEX BERNATZKY

“Tempura fried poach egg, enough said. But in cape town there is this amazing BNB, in Darling (it takes longer for me to get to work than it does for you to get to Darling, in fact it’s in Cape Town in my books) that serves Bubble and squeak poached eggs with Harrissa Aioli. If somebody knows the name of it please enlighten me”.
4th Avenue, linden |011 782 7310
SALVATION CAFÉ | JAZZ CHRISTIE
Milpark, Johannesburg

“The outside area under the trees reminds me of Europe, I’ll go there for their delicious and filling Breakfast Burrito (it’s a win for Mexican lovers), and their satisfying Red Cappuccino, not to mention the atmosphere. When I get to go home again it is without a doubt Beleza on Kloof Nek, Cape Town. They have the best pea-nut butter milkshake!”.
44 Stanley Avenue, Pilpark |011 482 7795
GIBA CAFÉ | NATASHA PAPINI
Westmead, Durban

“It’s a great spot to go to for a change of scenery and a bit of fresh air! The open air cafe is hidden in the amazing Giba valley and on cold days, warm blankets are scattered around for you to hide underneath while enjoying one of their amazing breakfasts! Their food and coffee is organic; their fruit and vegetable juices are freshly extracted; and their delicious goods are freshly baked every day, ensuring that the quality of their food is always the best! I either have their crunchy muesli with yoghurt and fresh fruit breakfast, or their perfectly poached egg served on low GI toast and spinach! For those with a bit of a sweet tooth, their Cheesecake is one of the best that I have tasted!”.
Giba Gorge MTB Park, Ingweni Road off Stockville Road, Westmead | 031 561 7143
FERRUCCI CAFÉ | CHRISTINA WIESE
Umhlanga , Durban

“They have the most amazing Almond & Chocolate croissants!”.
Shop 3 Granada Centre, Chartwell Drive, Umhlanga |031 561 4140
CORNER CAFÉ | SIOBHAN CONNOLLY
Glenwood, Durban

“The owners are awesome people, they focus on using organic products as much as possible and there is not a plastic piece of packaging in site. Their coffee is amazing, the food is always good and the service is great, too. If you have a few too many mimosas with breakfast, you can even pop ’round the back of the restaurant and get a tattoo at I Art Ink. Feel free to stay for lunch and supper too because the whole menu is superb and they’re super creative with their specials!”.
