Destination of the Week: Constantia Wine Valley

The Constantia Wine Route, only 15 minutes’ drive from Cape Town,  is the most spectacular wine experience in the world offering a unique blend of century-old established wine homesteads and new stylish boutique wineries in a setting of unsurpassed beauty and heritage.
There are ten wine estates in the Constantia Valley, all within a five minute drive from each other and nominees in the prestigious 2014 Klink Wine Tourism Awards, and all offering a special and intimate wine tasting experience.
We could wax lyrical all day about Groot Constantia, South Africa’s oldest wine estate with its award winning wines and wise old oak trees or the amazing strides being made by Silvermist, the only organically certified wine estate in the Constantia Valley and more, but you’ll have to experience it all for yourselves.
There is just so must to see, do and taste in the Winelands, but here are our five delicious things to do in Constantia:
1.       Take the City Sightseeing Bus Wine Tour from Silvermist Wine Estate down to Groot Constantia, via Beau Constantia, Constantia Glen and Eagles Nest. Take a day out for this one. 2. Start the day with coffee at the Coffee Bloc at Buitenverwachting, followed by wine tasting in the stylish contemporary Buitenverwachting tasting room with lunch at Buitenverwachting Restaurant 3.   Feast on tapas and wine tasting at Steenberg and Bistro 1862. 4.  Enjoy a Cellar Tour at Klein Constantia followed by a bottle of their spectacular Brut on the deck overlooking the farm. 5. Enjoy a sunset tasting at Beau Constantia followed by a spectacular fine dining experience at La Colombe at Silvermist Estate
