Wine Spectator reveals Top 100 list for 2014

Each year Wine Spectator publishes its Top 100 list, selecting the most thought-provoking wines out of the thousands tasted by the publication’s editors. 2014 sees an interesting departure from the usual French and Californian front-runners, with Dow Vintage Port 2011 hitting the top spot. Thanks to a sterling 2011 vintage, the Douro also took third and fourth place, whilst Australian wines came second and fifth.
Three South African wines were selected for the top 100:
Hamilton Russell Pinot Noir 2012 (29th) – Sold out, but the 2013 is available at R305.
Buitenverwagting Sauvignon Blanc Constantia Bayten 2013 (63rd) – Not available
Mulderbosch Faithful Hound 2011 (82nd) – Sold out, but the 2012 is available at R130.
Notable international achievers were Terre Nere Etna Rosso 2012 (97th) – one of our most popular imports – and Château Doisy-Védrines 2011 from Sauternes, which came 18th and received a spectacular 95 points. Both wines are available from Wine Cellar for R250 and R195 respectively.
