For the second consecutive year, AfrAsia Bank is the Auction’s headline sponsor. “By always upholding Nelson Mandela’s belief that ‘Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world’, and our own principle ‘More than just bankers, we are partners’, we aim to create, through The AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction, the kind of partnerships that will make a difference in the lives of so many South African children,” comments James Benoit, CEO of AfrAsia Bank.

The Cape Wine Auction Trust and PricewaterhouseCoopers

Governed by a board of Trustees and audited by PricewaterhouseCoopers, The AfrAsia Bank Cape Wine Auction maintains complete transparency and ensures the sustainability of the projects it supports. The Cape Wine Auction Trust is made up of a board of five individuals who bring a broad spectrum of business experience to the Trust. Industry heavy-weights Michael Jordaan, Ken Kinsey-Quick, Wendy Appelbaum, Siobhan Thompson and Michael Ratcliffe are all experts in their own fields and are united by a common philanthropic goal. They guide the allocation and the channelling of funds and ensure that all funds raised by the Auction are made available in their entirety for charitable purposes, without offset or deduction. 2014 Auction Report

After each Auction a comprehensive report on the allocation of the funds to various charitable organisations is released.  The Trustees thoroughly deliberate the merits of each beneficiary, the respective charities submit proposals for consideration by the Trustees, and funds are allocated, on the basis of maximum impact, to charities which have shown that they are properly managed and audited, and that their administrative costs are in order. Follow ups are conducted by the Trustees to ensure that the money is well utilized in the manner for which it is intended, and to develop long-term partnerships with the selected charities and grow with them over time.
