Thank god M is also for Merlot, which turned out to be the best antidote to a rather kak Monday.
I was lucky enough to receive a bottle of Steenberg Merlot 2011 (a double gold wininer at the Veritas awards!) for my birthday and last night I decided it was time to give it a bash. Ha, screw you Monday, I have wine!
The story goes that the Eucalyptus trees growing at Steenberg have imbued their Merlot with a slightly minty vibe. A whiff of the 2011 Merlot does reveal that, as well as a bit of chocolate and plum.
After a few sips, my Monday suddenly got a whole lot better. This Merlot was like slippers for my soul, satin sheets for my addled brain… aaaah.
Why did I enjoy it so much? Well, it’s packed with fruity richness and complexity, yet retains a smooth, velvety and easy-to-drink vibe. Do yourself a favour and serve it slightly chilled. Magic! Marvellous! Merlot!
