Winery of the Week: Waverley Hills

Waverley Hills Estate is situated between Tulbagh and Ceres, South Africa, at the foothills of the breathtaking Witzenberg Mountain Range. The fertile Oakleaf yellow clay terrain is impregnated with river stones, resulting in well-drained soils with excellent water holding capacity. All the vineyards are irrigated with pure mountain spring water and are located on a natural watershed area where both the Breede and Berg rivers originate. The area is renowned for its diverse fynbos (indigenous flora), giving our wines a unique herbaceous characteristic.
The Waverley Hills philosophy is simple, they use natural techniques as opposed to chemical ones. Their wine and olive products are organically certified by the Societe Generale de Surveillance (SGS). This is an international leading inspection, verification, testing and certification company and it states that no pesticides or herbicides may be used, in order to protect the environment and to produce grapes and olives as environmentally-friendly and healthily as possible.
Visiting Waverley Hills is a delight. Their newly built venue and restaurant has fabulous views of the area and they are able to host weddings, parties and conferences for up to 110 people.
They offer cellar tours and have free wine and olive tasting in the tasting room.
