Debra’s Weekender: Durban

Valentine’s Weekend is serving up a smorgasbord of musical delights! There is plenty to choose from and there is guaranteed to be something for everyone!
February 13 – Passenger
After months of anxious anticipation, the time has come when Passenger will be performing on Durban’s shores.
Pack a picnic basket—or even better, order one online for only R300—bring a blanket, a bottle of wine and come join Passenger as he regales us with songs of life, love, loss and heartache in his quirky, honest manner.
If previous shows at the Botanical Gardens are anything to go by, this one promises to be fantastic!
There are also tickets up for grabs!
All you have to do is:
1) Follow @MoreThanFoodCT, @SeedExperiences and @PassengerMusic.
2) Tweet us the Passenger lyric you are most excited to sing along to with the hashtag ‪#‎MoreThanPassenger
Tickets are available online for ZAR395 each

February 14 – Kahn
Valentine’s Day just got a whole lot more magical!
Kahn Morbee, the platinum selling front man of The Parlotones, will be performing at the Botanical Gardens accompanied by the Durban Philharmonic Orchestra, at night.
I’m not sure if it gets much more romantic than the KZNPO at night BUT if you’re one of the folk who is happily single, then rustle up some of your nearest and dearest, and come and join in the festivities, Cupid be damned.
Pack your favourite indulgences—it is after all the international day of the chocolate—and prepare to be utterly captivated.
Tickets cost between ZAR60 and ZAR130 and you can purchase them online

February 13 & 14 – Sandy Bigara, A Night To Remember
“A Night To Remember”, Sandy Bigara’s classical, jazz and traditional folk album which launched in 2014 has been a hit with Durban audiences and now is your chance to see this accomplished songbird perform songs from this album and her new vintage Blues Album “Autum Walk” live.
Copies of both albums will be available for purchase on the night.
The show runs from 13 to 14 February, starting at 19h00 at the Catalina Theatre.
Tickets are available from Computicket and cost ZAR120.

February 15 – Deep Fried Man @ Open Strings
If you have never heard of Deep Fried Man, I suggest you look alive and get to his next Durban performance at Open Strings in Kloof.
Always funny and oft times controversial, Deep Fried Man blends pop, rap, folk and satire into his own brand of side-splitting musical comedy.
Deep Fried Man is also one of the permanent cast members of the Emmy Nominated and Safta-winning satirical show – Late Nite News With Loyiso Gola.
What better way to chase away the Sunday blues, not just with comedy but musical comedy?!
Included in your ticket price of only ZAR100 is a delicious homemade gourmet burger & chips.
Doors open at 13h00 and the show starts at 14h00.
