Harvest came early for many South African winemakers this year, with the universal consensus quite positive thus far. ‘It’s hard to generalise, but this is looking like the most exceptional harvest of my career… The fruit has low pH levels, beautiful acid and it’s clean. It’s almost too good to be true,’ says Ken Forrester – whose FMC 2012 came in tops at our recent luxury white taste off. Matt Day of Klein Constantia is particularly excited by Sauvignon Blanc for the harvest and Angela Lloyd has reported good conditions for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir in the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley.
