Top 100 SA Wine Challenge – Pinot Noir, by Judge Greg Sherwood

A rivetting display of Pinot Noir captivated judges.  Better fruit expressions and sensitive use of oak allowed for many wines to shine.  Often the wines had real freshness and tension with lively acids playing a balancing role.  Styles ranged considerably from bigger, black-fruit dominated samples with forest floor notes and some power, to lighter, red fruit driven elegant wines.  Terroir was well represented with some delicious fine wines cracking the judges nods with serious scores being achieved.  A very fine experience!
