Debra’s Weekender: Durban

Header

It’s been a sweltering week in Durbs and if yours was anything like mine, you’re looking forward to letting your hair down and so without any further ado…

26 March 2015 – New York Comedy Club

We all know that laughter is the very best medicine and as such I suggest you hustle and book your seats for two of Trevor Noah’s favourite acts, Loyiso Madinga and Dillan Oliphant, both of whom hail from the City of Gold and will be performing their final show in Durban tonight!

Arno Els, one of my absolute favourite local comics, will be representing Durban and the show will be hosted by one of Durban’s most beloved sons, Masood Boomgaard. That we have adopted him from the Cape is no one’s business. He’s ours now and you can’t have him back.

29 March 2015 – The Kickstands

If you find yourself down south in AmanzimTexas and are looking for something to do, get to Ollies in Beach Road to catch The Kickstands.

Labelled as an emerging talent in 2013, the Kickstands have gone on to firmly establish themselves on the Durban music scene. This acoustic duo, comprising Gary Nixon on vocals and rhythm guitar (winner of the 2012 Acoustic Ascent Competition) and Rudy Greyvenstein on lead guitar, are regulars on the lineup for White Mountain Acoustic music festival and have performed on the Splashy Fen Main stage. They also won the ECR Be The Band in 2013 and opened for Durban Day. The Kickstands come highly recommended – by me – and I promise you will be well entertained by these genuinely great musicians (and men), who offer originality and some truly amazing technical guitar work.
