Seriously Old Dirt is a rich , sweet-fruited wine from the heralded 2012 vintage . A barrel selection produced in the Vilafonté cellar in Stellenbosch, it has the structure, purity and concentration to age a decade. At R185, it is not to be missed!

Vilafonté Seriously Old Dirt 2012

A blend of 58% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Malbec and 1% Cabernet Franc. Initially backward on the nose, this latest release from the Vilafonté stable is a layered and structured affair. This serious and sumptuous wine unfurls to exude a sweeter, riper layer of fruit. Made in a modern aesthetic and intended for earlier drinking, I still find it very structured and best after it’s been open for two days. Decanting is therefore highly recommended. Vilafonté Series C 2012

The 2012 Series C is a blend of 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 22% Malbec and 7% Cabernet Franc that is aged for 16 months in 60% new French oak barrels. The nose has a sublime sense of clarity, still as intense as previous vintages but the detail here is ratcheted up another level. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine tannins, the Cabernet character really shining through with cedar and pencil lead notes toward the finish. Vilafonté Series M 2012

48% Merlot, 35% Malbec, 17% Cabernet Sauvginon. Red berries, some floral perfume and attractive oak spice on the nose. Succulent fruit, fresh acidity and fine tannins – really well defined. Suave and sophisticated. – Christian Eedes, Winemag.co.za
