It’s been a while since my last post, mainly because I got hitched (hoorah!) and spent a few weeks frolicking in the tropical Venezuelan archipelago of Los Roques.
Upon my return, it was shocking to see how the recent Cape Town blaze ended just 60m from our little forest home. What was more distressing was the scale of destruction, not only to people’s lives and livelihoods, but to the precious plants, animals and farmlands.
In the spirit of celebrating the Constantia Valley and the brave fight against the fires, here is a bumper collection of some Constantia favourites.
Klein Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc
If you’re looking for a good value white that you can glug on hot Cape days, look no further than the Klein Steenberg Sauvignon Blanc. Take a whiff and you’ll enjoy peachy-granadilla-pineapple blast of tropical goodness. The flavours are pleasantly crisp and refreshing.

Eagles Nest
At the moment I’m a sucker for a good viognier. If rich, decadent white wines are your thing, spoil yourself with this sexy vintage. Golden in colour and with alluring floral aromas, you just know that this wine is going to taste damn good. And it does… very full, rich and luscious, with “telltale Viognier spices”, to quote the tasting notes. Beautiful, just beautiful.

This enjoyable Cabernet Merlot forms part of Klein Constantia’s KC Range, which offers easy-drinking, well-priced wines that still boast the quality associated with this famous estate. It’s fruity and not too demanding to drink, but still pleasingly interesting on the palate. Perfect to drink while you’re cooking supper, watching House of Cards, mindlessly browsing Pinterest or having a skinner with your mates.

Groot Constantia Blanc de Noir 2014
Blanc de Noir translates as “white wine from red grapes.†When looking at the lovely salmon colour of this wine. it’s quite magical to think that it came from 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon grapes. Flavours of summer fruits, red berries and a dash of citrus make for a very The last time I drank it was at a lazy, lingering lunch that ended in a nap, something which I intend to repeat again very soon.

Buitenverwachting Sauvignon Blanc 2014
If you like your Sauvignon Blanc dry with zippy acidity, give this fine wine a bash. All those green flavours you’d come to expect from a Sauvignon Blanc are there (gooseberry and green pepper), coupled with somewhat flinty, mineral tones. It makes me want to eat a platter of prawns drenched in garlic butter and lemon juice, sigh.
