It seems Cape Town is attempting to export its First Thursdays to us up here in the Big Smoke. They don’t seem to realise though that every Thursday is first Thursday up here in Jo’burg.

Literally every week we have a host of exhibitions opening all in pretty close proximity to each other. Sure there might be some other specially hosted events and pop ups for First Thursday, and I have no doubt its going to be great,  but just to prove a point I am going to start by listing all the great things happening this Thursday so you can make your own first Thursday every Thursday.

First Thursday Every Thursday:

Otherwise head towards Braam.

Anti Est. serves some of the finest cocktails made with small batch craft spirits… craft everything. We-Are-Awesome are hosting what promises to be a great party at Great Dane. If memory of other We-Are-Awesome parties serves me well expect champagne showers and sore feet on Friday. For base faces Addictshun is happening down the road at And

For those that want to stay in the leafy suburbs The Artisan has just opened in Greenside where Gin used to be. It’s an attempt to bring a little integrity back to a street that has become a little gauche over the years. Just a little way away in Melville is experience a massive revival and leading the charge are Jo’anna Melt Bar and Hell’s Kitchen. Two amazing places to spend the rest of your Thursday evening. There are of course the old classics that refuse to die like Ratz and Catz Pajamas (still open always!). I even think Roxy’s might still be hanging in there.

So there suck it First Thursdays! You will probably be cool and I will still definitely be there, but we really don’t need you we’ve been doing this since forever.

Friday & Saturday

For the rest of the weekend (if you’re still able to move after tonight) I can suggest finding a friend’s couch to sleep on up North in Snorsville (Pretoria) because Arcade Empire are having their 4th Birthday this Friday and Arcade Empire’s birthdays are never to be missed and then you can spend your Saturday at the Thrift Fair in Hatfield. It’ll be sure to get the adrenaline going and shake that hangover right out of you. Why? It’s only 11:00 – 14:00 and thrifters have the crazy eyes when it comes to making sure they get the prime thrifting gold.
