The places we eat at: Jordan Restaurant with George Jardine

The genius that is Chef George Jardine has been operating quietly under the populist culinary radar at Jordan Restaurant ever since he moved his operation to the Stellenbosch Estate.  His food, however, is even better (if that is possible) than ever.  Interesting flavour combinations and what can only be described as beautiful food are the norm – that view must be inspiring!

The menu changes daily, so no use dwelling on the details.  Suffice to say that the food was delicious.  Pretty stuff on a plate that packs a flavour punch.  Interesting ingredients – is that not the reason we visit restaurants?  To enjoy dishes that you cannot make yourself because you’re probably too scared to try!  We love the open kitchen,  enabling you to watch the chefs quietly preparing the best meal you’ve had in quite some time.  The service is impeccable; unobtrusive, friendly and efficient.  The portions are more than sufficient.

The wine pairings were spot-on and the service knowledgeable and  generous.  So generous that we were relieved that we could stumble back to our accommodation on the farm.  Our sommelier had all the information at hand about the wines and delivered it with quiet aplomb.

To make the evening even better: The cost.  R380 for four courses & add R190 for the wine pairing.  The wine list is quite reasonable with the focus on the estate’s wines, but with other options available too.  Lighter meals and more gorgeousness is available from the adjacent Jordan Bakery during the day.
