Chardonnay weekend: Day 2

Day 2 of our Chardonnay weekend in Paternoster dawned with no trace of the inclement weather predicted by the weather wizards.  Clear, crisp late mornings are ideal for Chardonnay.

We started with the beautiful Newton Johnson Family Vineyards 2014.  The only wine that can succesfully follow a Newton Johnson is the Riachard Kershaw Clonal Selection – The 2012 is absolutely sublime. Saline, savoury salted lemons. The 2013 is still a tad too young, but we will re-evaluate the 2013 again and again (as we all brought Kershaw along)!

Julian Schaal’s Evidence, Hartenberg Estate’s Eleanor and the Lismore 2012 also reinforced the category’s high standing. There was not a sub-par wine in the line-up.

Day 3…and we still have a few more.
