Paula’s Weekender: Cape Town

Last weekend I went up to Jozi for the launch of an event venue called

Ground (I’m unashamedly punting this here because the team behind it happen to be some of my favorite people) and it was RAD!

What really blew my mind though was how Jozi does NOT let a bit of cold, wind and even rain put them off getting out there and having an awesome Saturday.

On that note there’s plenty going on this weekend in and around Cape Town, so read on:

On Friday night, Straight No Chaser are hosting the Mark Buchanan Trio. Entrance is R80 for one set or R140 all night. Sets at 8:30 and 10pm. This is SUCH a great venue – especially in winter. There’s little that makes me happier than kicking back with a glass of wine and some good live music.

Another option for Friday night, with a different live music vibe, can be found at The Blah Blah Bar in Kloof Street. Joshua Grierson’s alt electro project, FOLLOWER, and a newly-formed act called Rivers in French make their debut at 9pm. Entrance R60 and details here.

On Saturday, ColorBox Studios host the The Warehouse Market. Expect truckloads of tasty food to feed on, local designers, fashion, art, and vibes by Nomadiq Music.

On Saturday night you’ll recognize House of Machines regular (but by no means unoriginal) Joshua Grierson + Trouble. I can tell you from experience that the music goes well with the dark and stormy cocktail. Go easy though – this one goes down a treat and before you know it, it’s Sunday.

So anyway… on Sunday, Spit Roast Sundaze at the Village Idiot starts at 12, with the roast ready at 2pm. Need I say more? No, I think not.

On Sunday arvo from 5:30, The Local Grill in Woodstock are hosting The Steampunk Sessions – a fundraiser for their Saloon at AfrikaBurn next year.

With epic, epic music and performers entertaining you – you don’t want to miss being a part of this magic. Tickets here.

Winter special of the week is at Aubergine in Gardens. At R250 for 2 courses, or R340 for 3, it may sound pricey but this is fine dining we’re talking, and I’ve never heard anything but great things about the food here.

Finally, I leave you with some ideas for the coming weeks…

Cape Nature have winter specials running until the end of August. Whether it’s the Winelands or the West Coast, there’s so many great options for a little weekend getaway on that website – go have yourself a look.

Happy weekend everyone!

Don’t let winter keep you indoors. Get out there and send us a tweet or something about what gems you’re finding… @MoreThanFoodCT or comment on a Weekender post and tell us about your weekend ideas. Until next week…
