The places we eat at: The Dining Room

Being encouraged to bring your own wine to a restaurant is already a huge PLUS in our eyes, so when friends invited us to join them at The Dining Room we jumped at the opportunity.

The Dining Room is the brain child of Karen Dudley (The Kitchen in Woodstock) and was primarily a venue for private functions.  The Dining Room is now open to the public on Tuesday and Thursday evenings for a set 3-course meal.

Being given no choice on the evening may sound daunting but let me assure you: The food is delicious and the portions generous.  There  were 5 “starters” all served in one go (adding to that “at home” feeling) – the Peppered Tofu noodles and grilled aubergine were standouts but the most amazing (non-Banting friendly) starter was the Spinach & Cheddar Gozleme (go check it out – it is incredible!).

The Korean Glazed Duck was my choice of the evening from the Mains and I may have indulged in a spot of dessert – it just all looked so delectable.  The menu obviously changes weekly – with emphasis on locally sourced, seasonal ingredients.

What really impressed us was the level of service: friendly and professional.  These guys remembered who brought what wine and still had time to serve all the crazy delicious food in between.

All of this, for only R290 per person (yes!).  No wonder you have to book well in advance as the restaurant is fully booked most evenings when it’s open.

Go and book now – take a couple of friends; the more the merrier.  It’s like dining at home; the food is just better, you don’t have to do the dishes and someone brings you your drinks.  What more do you need?
