We have written about our regard for the Naudé White before but the Board of Directors and Ian Naudé at Adoro Wines are not resting on their laurels; they have just released the new range of wines made from old vines.

The Adoro newsletter explained the reason why Ian Naudé loves working with old vines: “Very often people will walk past a retirement village and not pay any attention. Ian pays attention. If you sit with an elderly person and just LISTEN to what they have to say, the knowledge and heritage will fascinate you. This is exactly what the Old Vines do – they capture you with their fascinating roots in heritage and history.  With minimum interference Ian captures nature’s stories and bottles them.”

We chatted to Ian at CapeWine this week and tasted these wines more than once (no spitting was involved in the tasting of these wines) and we can confidently say that all 3 of the wines in the current range are brilliant.  The 3 wines are: A Chenin Blanc made from 30 to 50 year old vines, a Semillon from a 20 year old vineyard and the undisputed star of the range; the Cinsault, bringing 36 years of growth and history to the party.

These wines all tell a story, it’s one that will take its time to be told; as these wines mature in the bottle, they will become even more interesting.  Ignore these at your peril.  Our wine world is richer because of these vineyards and these wines.
