Joburg

Johannesburg we have come upon an almost long weekend. A lot of us (myself included) have taken today off and taken the opportunity to get out of the big city for a breath of fresh air. For those of you still in the big smoke, the city of gold never disappoints and there are loads of awesome little (and not so little) events to keep yourself busy with.

All Weekend

First and foremost it is Taste of Joburg all weekend. It actually started yesterday, and will continue on until Sunday. It’s hosted at Montecasino this year. This year there are restaurants such as the ever popular Gwefey, A la Bouffe, Escondido Tapas and Wine, and Rabbit in the Moon participating. There will also be a wide range of exhibitors, food producers and award-winning wineries, all providing plenty of delicious food and drink for you to try buy, and come back to buy some more because you were naughty and ate it all before you even got back to the car.

Friday 25 September

This Friday will be a throwback for those of you of the “Indie RocknRoll” persuasion that love to dance, because it is a throwback to one of the greatest Thursday night dance parties Jolburg has ever seen: Cellardoor Thursdays. It’s right up there with Shut-up I’m Dancing, and Thursdays at Tokyo Star when it was still in Melville. Now the Cellardoor team have found a new venue in Monchichi on Fox Street. THis party is called loaded but it’s still the same Cellardoor team. It’s even still free if you happen to still have your Cellardoor card!

Details

Friday 25 September 8pm

Monchhichi, 23 Fox Street, (opposite the Magistrates court)

R50 or Free if you have a Cellardoor card

Saturday 26 September

Next Weekend it’s Vodacom In the City (which is actually in the suburbs this year but minor details). In the build up to it the In the City team have been hosting all sorts of events around joburg that you can take part in and win tickets. The most fun sounding of which will be taking place on Saturday. It’s the In the City Pirate Boat Take-Over at Zoo Lake.

It’s what childhood dreams are made of! They’ve hired out ALL of the boats at Zoo Lake for an awesome day on the dam. Get dressed up, bring your water guns and go head-to-head with other boats as you try to take them over. Come prepared to get wet and bring your sunscreen, or just chill on the dam banks while you watch all the action. Prizes will be awarded for best-dressed and best sieges. They will also have treasure maps for hidden tickets.

There are Only 100 spots available, which will be given on a first come first served basis.

Get a team of between 2 – 6 together, name your team and start boarding vessels and making scallywags walk the plank

Sunday 27 September

Our old favourite is back. It’s the september edition of Ice Cream Sunday. Their spring menu is always the best. I still have dreams about their nachos with sour cream ice-cream. This time time round they are throwing a pool party, and have amazing sounding things like pink lemonade coconut ice cream sundaes on the menu. It just keeps getting better.
