Get your hands on top SA wines at the CWG Auction

The 2015 Cape Wine Makers Guild Auction is being held on Saturday 3 October 2015 from 09:00 at Spier, Stellenbosch. It showcases the finest and most exclusive wines produced by some of South Africa’s leading winemakers specifically for the auction. We will be attending and are happy to bid on your behalf if you cannot make it.

‘One of the fundamental principles of the Cape Winemakers Guild is to raise the standard and international standing of South African wines. We achieve this by improving the quality of our wines through knowledge sharing and mutual support.’ – Andries Burger, Chairman CWG.

Those in attendance are able to select the best wines available as they go under the hammer.

Winemakers Guild

Roland Peens of Wine Cellar shares his thoughts:

‘For the second year in a row, I considered the Paul Cluver Wagon Trail Chardonnay and Boekenhoutskloof Syrah as the most impressive wines on the Cape Winemakers Guild Auction. Both display wonderful tension, purity and elegance, speaking of place rather than ripeness and new oak. The dynamic “new-wave” of winemakers in Duncan Savage, Adi Badenhorst, Andrea Mullineux, Godfried Mocke and Miles Mossop seem to be having welcome impact on the Cape winemakers Guild. While there are still many powerful, alcoholic and oak-driven wines, in general the reds are more elegant and lower in alcohol. The whites are more varied, but there is increasing focus on texture over acidity and primary fruit. Good news all round for wine lovers!’

Expect prices to push past last year’s figures, as top Cape wines continue to move further into the world’s spotlight.
