Mosel Riesling by the Glass, plus new tastings

We have found a cracking value Mosel that will delight all Riesling lovers. Adolph Huesgen traces his family’s winemaking heritage back to 1735 and is a 9th generation Mosel producer. His quintessential dry Rieslings display typical Mosel minerality, derived from the steep Devon slate slopes of this historical wine region.

Mosel

Villa Huesgen’s ‘Riesling by the Glass’ bursts with jasmine blossom and white peach. It is crisp, dry, lean and fresh with utter quaffability at just 11.5% alcohol. Their ‘Schiefer’ Riesling, literally meaning slate, is slightly more concentrated and rich, offering more minerality, ageability and length. Trabener Würzgarten Kabinett heralds from the finest and rockiest part of Trabener Würzgarten and offers more spice and raciness. Finally, the Alte Reben is a 100-year-old vineyard cru; it offers the most richness and requires ageing.

For those seeking one of the leading VDPs (Verband Deutscher Prädikats), we have small quantities of the massively rated Willi Schaefer Rieslings here .

Tasting Notes

Villa Huesgen, Mosel QbA Riesling by the Glass 2014 – R 135

A modern Riesling, easy to drink on any occasion. Fresh, fine fruit on the nose, reminiscent of apricot and peach, with decent minerality. On the palate, it is juicy with refined acidity, middle density and length. QbA, alcohol 11.5% vol.

Villa Huesgen, Schiefer Riesling 2014 – R 195

A fresh, juicy Riesling with complex apricot and peach flavours and a light citrus note. It shows the fine minerality that characterises this terroir-driven wine, which is crispy on the palate and well balanced with an excellent finish. Dry, alcohol 12% vol.

Villa Huesgen, Trabener Würzgarten Kabinett 2014 – R 225

An elegant, full-bodied Riesling with crisp citrus fruit and hints of ripe apricots and peaches. On the palate this Kabinett seduces with its fine minerality and long, lingering, fruity aftertaste. Dry Kabinett, alcohol 11.5% vol.

Villa Huesgen, Enkircher Steffensberg Alte Reben 2014 – R 275

The Riesling grapes that go into this premium wine grow in the historic vineyard of Enkircher Steffensberg, which previously belonged to the Huesgen family. Alte Reben is hand-selected from 100-year-old vines and brings a very small but concentrated yield. The flavour is very intense and it has fabulous aromas. The finish is long and vibrant. A wine with very good ageing potential; the epitome of Riesling. Dry, alcohol 12%  vol.
