Strandveld Vineyards annual trail run & bubbly breakfast

Tuesday, 29 December, Strandveld Vineyards, Elim, Cape Agulhas

Add a bubbly touch to summer festivities and join winemaker Conrad Vlok of Strandveld Vineyards near Cape Agulhas for the annual Strandveld Trail run, followed by a Méthode Cap Classique breakfast on Tuesday, 29 December.

Enjoy a scenic 15km trail, or opt for the non-competitive 8 km vineyard walk for a more relaxed start to your day in the Elim Wine Ward, South Africa’s southernmost wine growing region.

For the 15km trail run, visitors will kick off at Strandveld, venture through vineyards, fynbos and pastures. The jeep track will take you onto the Sandberg to enjoy breath-taking views of the Agulhas Basin, with wetlands, wheat fields and the surrounding coastline, with a couple of water points on the way.

“The route is not too challenging, but remember it is a trail run, so watch your ankles,” adds Vlok, who recommends sunblock and insect repellent as essentials to take along. Prizes will be awarded to the first three male and first three female finishers.

The 8km vineyard walk is mainly on jeep track and gravel road and will take you around vineyards, through grazing pastures and fynbos. A highlight is without doubt the beautiful view from the water point at the weather station of the Agulhas Plain and surrounds. For those who would just like to work up an appetite, there is a shortcut on this route and you could just do a 4½km walk.

Pre-booking your spot for the day is essential as only a limited number of tickets are available.

Email [email protected] to reserve your place and diarise 06h30 on the day for registration and 07h00 for the start. Tickets are R85 for children 12 and younger, and R175 per adult, including breakfast, the trail run and two glasses of the Strandveld Skaamgesiggie Pinot Noir Brut.
