Hockey Homecoming

We were entertained by the SA field hockey team on the flight from Dubai to Johannesburg last night. Jolly hockey sticks joined the Emirates flight fresh from Delhi while we had arrived from Singapore after a very bumpy seven hour shake (180Km/hr headwinds). The Springboks came 10th out of 12 (they were seeded 11th) in a tournament dominated by Australia which beat Germany in the final. Aussies first and SA 10th is about the ratio of wine sales the respective countries make in Singapore with the SA offering dominated by big brands (shown below).

Although nice to see all the Pinotage next to Meerlust Rubicon and what competitive pricing: KWV Café Culture half the price of Rubicon! Just the drop to match Sri Lankan giant crabs. Here is my friend and former Anglo American Geophysicist Steve Wood making the acquaintance of a chilli crab at Irvin’s.

I have decided I prefer my crabs black on the basis that pepper is a less aggressive spice than chilli. Alas, no Pinotage was available at Irvin’s so we had to make do with quarts of Tiger Beer. And very nice and burpy they were, too. Singapore is a culinary Coup de Coeur and we can’t wait to return.
