Bibulous Business Cards from Bidvest

Great marketing idea from Bidvest: a tray full of business cards in the business class lounge at OR Tambo providing contact details for the 10 wines on offer by the glass. The magnificient eight producers include some of the Cape’s most progressive marketers: Waterford, Kaapzicht (two wines), the Winery of Good Hope (two wines), Man Vintners, Protea, Kleine Zalze, Cape Point and Villiera. In fact this wine hack was interested to meet the protea merlot 2007, a product of Rupert Wines. Hanneli or Johann, I wonder?

Johann’s friend Schalk Burger had a similar scheme on his Meerkat wines available in poverty class on SAA when I still used to fly the national carrier before developing an allergy to Sawubona, the in-flight magazine. A perforated tag on the bottle allowed the interested punter to quickly trouser contact details for the brand. Schalk is a master of marketing with a solid training at SA Breweries. One recent wheeze was smuggling a meerkat onto the print ads of the OranjeRivier Wine Cellars carried by Sarie and Fair Lady. Guerilla marketing at its best.
