Where? Rickety Bridge Winery Franschhoek 27 (0)21 876 2129;
Why? A tight blend of Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache with the latter homeboy (the grapes are from Franschhoek with 40% fermented as whole bunches in very old oak barrels) providing an attractive juicy “wine gums” character to the blend. Made by flavour architect Wynand Grobler who honed his skills on the Helderberg.

Now that strict water restrictions are in place in the town, residents have a choice between bottled mineral water and this Southern Rhône-style blend. Given the proliferation of wineries in French Corner, the municipality must be fervently praying for a reverse Wedding at Cana miracle.
