Jannie climbs into Distell

While the dust settles on Japan’s stricken radioactive power stations and global stock markets tank, one of the transformers of SA wine, Jannie Mouton, whose recent bid for KWV came unstuck to Marcel Golding, has gobbled up another R2 million rands worth of CapeVin Investments shares on the JSE. Jannie’s PSG Flexible Fund unit trust is an investor in CVI whose sole asset is a stake in liquor giant Distell plus a sparkling board who pay themselves handsomely to take dividends from Distell and pass them on to CVI shareholders.

Jannie got a bargain, paying R81.50 and R82.25 on Monday and Tuesday for shares which closed at R83.95 today. Based on today’s closing Distell share price, they are “worth” nearly R100. So while Jannie may have been frustrated in his designs on KWV, it doesn’t stop him making a few bob from corporate wine.
