Marketing Meander Moscato

Myanmar is the place for Meander Moscato. As the former Burma opens up to the west (“imagine a county of 60 million people without an ATM” says UniWines marketing mogul Pieter Cronje, below) tourists, led by Hilary Clinton, will start flooding in and the delightful Meander Moscato (M&M) with its abstemious 7.5% alcohol and lavish flavours of grape will go well with dishes from a spicy Asian kitchen. At under R35 a bottle, Aung San Suu Kyi can use it to celebrate her election victories next year.

Emile Joubert and I enjoyed a bottle with our truffled pasta at Societi Bistro this afternoon and it was also a great match with the charcuterie plate comped us by Julien, dashing new French chef, who is holding the fort in Gardens while the Societi Brasserie opens up on Tokai Main Road in Constantia.

Moscato is the next big white thing after Pinot Grigio and seeing as though SA missed the Grigio wave, perhaps we can catch the Moscato one. Certainly Barefoot Muscato is dinging serious dong in Faerie Glen, Pretoria. Landed at $1 a bottle and sold by Pick ‘n Pay for R30, who says wine does not pay?
