Millennium Magic

A serious lunch at the Pierneef à la Motte restaurant last month with my friend Pinky was seriously enhanced by a bottle of the just released Millennium 2010 Bordeaux-style (sic, see PS) blend.  So imagine my surprise to see that serious discounter Johan Wegner from GetWine slash the price from R105 to R69, although he’ll have to update the accolades attributed to the wine:

International Wine & Spirit Competition – Silver
Concours Mondial de Bruxelles 2005 – Silver
Fairbairn Capital Trophy Wine Show 2005 – Silver
International Wine Challenge 2005 – Seal of Approval
Winemaker’s Choice Awards 2005 – Highly Regarded
Veritas 2005 – Bronze

For although a Veritas bronze is far rarer than a gold or double gold, whether a tasting panel back can see five years into the future, is moot.  Or are wine judges, in addition to their many other miraculous abilities, also blessed with the gift of long-range prophecy?  It wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

PS.  Bordeaux-style blend indeed with 16% Shiraz as Johan corrects me!  At least it’s not Shiraz dominated, like the Almenkerk Lace Bordeaux-style blend (Platter 2012).
