KWV rocks the Pendock Wine Gallery

The Pendock Wine Gallery @ Taj was overrun by Richard Rowe groupies last night as the KWV wine consultant presented six of his rockstars along with a witty exhibition of small paintings – pebbles really – by Simon Stone. The Stones were curated by Luan Nel while Richard curated the rocks.

The only sour note of the evening was the bottle of dessert wine shoplifted by one of the First Thursdays flaneurs. Which reminded me of the disappearing tea bag scandal from Majeka House some years ago. But instead of giving a sweet service award to the suspect as the fragrant Whale Cottage blogster does this morning (without disclosing paternal relationships if such things apply in cetacean families or pods as I believe they’re called) the gallery staff were just upset. Orlando Furioso in fact. Faced with such stunning wines, you don’t assume villains and scoundrels front up to taste them. Just market and write about them, alas.

The Gallery would have been overcrowded if a tasting of Hermit on the Pill wines hadn’t siphoned off some winos to Mint Restaurant, next door. The dreaded Hermit herself (above, right) was thankfully not observed in her own capacity.
