Is the Diners Club Winelist of the Year competition the biggest yawn in SA wine? Look at the criteria for rating a restaurant wine list. “Wine lists will be judged according to four criteria: content (35%), balance (25%), suitability (15%) and presentation (25%).” What happened to value for money, the #1 criteria for most diners?

Does the requirement that the establishment accepts Diners Club credit cards still apply? If so, this will exclude many restaurants with innovative winelists such as the Chef’s Warehouse of Liam Tomlin, best restaurant in Cape Town IMHO, which does not accept Diners as they charge a higher commission than Visa. Come on Standard Bank. Are you so desperate to dominate SA wine you’re willing to flog a dead horse?
