Invited to lunch by erstwhile Slimes colleague David Bullard, I can report that while his Out to Lunch column may be no more – David’s brand was threatening to overshadow his organ – David is still very lunch oriented.
The venue was the Wild Peacock in Oke City and at R10 an oyster, this must be the most cost-effective places to enjoy molluscs.
Especially when David is paying, as he was.
Pick of the whites was a Sauvignon Vert from Friuli brought along by the charming Nicolette Waterford (below) who also supplied the Jeepers bubbly, imported from Champagne by Doolhof.
Mark Norrish played a blinder in the shape of a bottle of Ch. Dauzac 1982.
There was an excellent Muga from Rioja and a stunning Cabernet Franc blend called Ekliptika made by Jasper Raats who is the closest the Cape comes to the Big Lebowski.
The food was excellent, the wine at the same address while the company confirmed that Oke City is in danger of becoming the social capital of SA, being already the food and money HQ.
