Wine launches: a challenge to the waistline

As Cape Town winos limber up for the Rietvallei Chef’s Table at the Mount Nelson this lunchtime, a thought should be spared for the waistlines of wine hacks. The view at Mondiall yesterday confirms just how stretched are some of the clothes of hedonism’s heroines.

Has the time come for SA wine launches to be put on a diet? The delicious tapas canapés at Mondiall yesterday included towers of Miso glazed pork belly that would have passed muster at the Test Kitchen as a main course. There was also Cape seafood ceviche and then starters of yellowfin tuna tataki (below)

followed by grain fed sirloin and rounded off with white chocolate and passion fruit gateaux.
