The terroir spotlight of our bi-monthly Wellsfaber Sommelier Selection fell on Namaqualand last Wednesday. We had so many wines to taste, we decided to kick off with the reds.
The best rated six pack was:
Spencer Bay 2012 the blend
Villa Eposta 2014 cape blend
Lutzville Ebenhaeser 2014
Fryer’s Cove pinot noir 2014
Teubes Cabernet Sauvignon b 2012
Bellpost Merlot 2014
Cellar door prices range from R90 to R155 with the least expensive wine, the top scorer.
The name Ebenhaeser is an alternative spelling of the biblical Ebenezer which means “stone of help” which explains the flinty flavours of this wine.
The guests of sponsor WellsFaber really enjoyed the wines at the Cape Town Club, as indeed did passing clubbers.
