My mini-English (no, not Tiny Tim Atkin this time) breakfast at Food Lovers Market was disturbed by the liquor supplement from UltraLickers this morning. Shock #1 was to see Imoya – a KWV product last time I looked – classified as Cognac. But then it says “Cognac” on the bottle. Hoe werk dit Andre van der Veen?
Well it turns out that there are two Imoyas and one is indeed a Cognac, “crafted in partnership with Maison Charpentier, true masters of their art who have been distilling cognac in small batches on site in the heart of the Cognac region at Brie-sous-Archiac since 1895.” Quite confusing to have a brandy and a Cognac with the same name.
For those who find Veuve Clicquot too pricey at R529.99
there’s always Steenberg at R129. I still fondly remember the salad days of Veuve for R199 at Makro.
Steenberg also got **** for its label from the controversial wine label guide owned by Diners Club. Something the Widow still has to achieve – and I not talking Toothy Tim James here, either.
