Karen Loise van Niekerk is an archaeologist working on Middle Stone Age sites, specifically Blombos Cave and Klipdrift Shelter, in the southern Cape, South Africa. She has a keen interest in the role that marine foods (fish and shellfish) played in the diet of people living during the Stone Ages.
