Wine Walk: Texas Wineries Opening Up To Celebrate Texas Wine Month

The Texas Department of Agriculture has designated October as Texas Wine Month. Texas wineries are finally beginning to celebrate Texas Wine Month after Gov. Greg Abbott has eased up on restrictions for wineries. Texas wineries are allowed to open up to 50 percent of capacity both indoors and outdoors with masks and social distancing mandated and enforced by wineries. Before Gov. Abbott?s recent Executive Order, some Texas wineries with approved food services could open with limitations. Now all Texas wineries can open during the pandemic as long as certain restrictions such as reduced capacity, masks, and social distancing are observed. Texas wineries are enforcing these restrictions since they know that without such restriction enforcement that the Texas Alcoholic beverage Commission can temporarily revoke a winery?s license for 30 days upon first conviction of not following the restrictions. To ensure service, I strongly recommend making reservations at Texas wineries you wish to visit, especially special events like concerts. Local wineries are enjoying their limited freedoms during the remaining days of Texas Wine month. Bernhardt Winery near Plantersville is now open from Thursday through Sunday and closed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Bernhardt Winery is hosting several special events such as the Houston Hill Country Artisan Market along with an acoustic concert featuring A. J. Santana from 1:30 to 5:30 this Saturday. A Sunday evening concert starting at 6 p.m. features OMG – Houston until 8 p.m. For Oct. 31, Bernhardt hosts a Houston Hill Country Artisan Market and on Sunday the famous Johnny and the Spinsations.
