18th Century Painting Punctured by Rogue Spumante Cork

The jubilance of a Milan government office party turned to dismay when a council officer popped a bottle of Spumante and the cork flew through the canvas of an 18th century painting. The piece, hanging on the wall of the Palazzo Isimbardi, was left with a bullet-like hole (appropriately) amidst the history tableau’s battle scene. Repair estimates were tallied to 1,000 euros. The Telegraph reports that the unfortunate party-goer wasn’t actually on the guest list—he just happened to be passing by and joined in the revelry at the spur of the moment. Nor was he familiar with opening wine bottles as he professed to be a near-teetotaler. You can guess who won’t be opening champagne bottles at office parties anymore. [The Telegraph]
