by Werner Els

Pruning is finally finished and just in time too!

As the weather started to turn and become slowly but surely warmer, the small buds that were left on the vine after pruning started to grow. This part of the vineyard growth cycle is known as bud break. Small leaves started to unfold and green shoots are starting to grow from the old wood.
The new growth rapidly speeds up with the available moisture from the winter rains as well as the increase in direct sunlight.
Over the next couple of months, the growth from these shouts will slow down and flowering will take place which in place will develop the fruit clusters.
